We're campaigning for the Scottish Government to implement 4 specific policy asks, which you can read about below.
We hope that these asks will achieve our vision of broad climate and environmental education.
Our Scottish campaign has two parent organisations, Fridays For Future Scotland and National Union of Students Scotland. We are supported by SOS-UK (Students Organising for Sustainability UK).
Our volunteers, supported by staff, have created four asks for the Scottish Government which we ask the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills to adopt. These have been developed specifically for education in Scotland. We first presented these at our Parliamentary Reception to MSPs, Councillors, students and stakeholders on the 22nd March 2023. You can read about the event in our blog post.
Our campaign asks for Jenny Gilruth MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills:
ASK 1: Mainstream inclusion of climate justice education across the curriculum
ASK 2: Inclusion of the climate emergency and ecological crisis in teacher education and a new professional teaching qualification
ASK 3: Increased priority for sustainability in school inspections
ASK 4: Educational buildings put at the front of the queue to be retrofitted to net-zero standards
You can read more about our process and details on each asks in our full policy document here.

Report on the estimated costs of achieving Net Zero in Primary and Secondary Schools in the United Kingdom. Prepared by Energise (pro-bono) for Teach the Future. September 2023.
Our full asks we want to see from the current Scottish Parliament. As education in the UK is a devolved matter, these asks apply just to education in Scotland - we have separate policy asks for education in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
A document we commissioned from Energise outlining a cost estimate for the retrofitting of all education buildings across the UK to net zero standards.
A document to be signed by exam boards across the UK stating their support for climate education.
Our original demands of the Scottish Government, which have now changed due to the progress that has been made.
Meeting to talk with our political candidates as part of Teach the Future's "Is Climate Education on their Cards?" general election campaign is our chance to open up a nuanced and effective political discussion of the issues that matter to us.
The elections of today have higher stakes than ever before. We need politicians to be taking action if we are to prevent climate catastrophe, and our votes and political engagement are an essential part of how we show politicians what we care about.
After collapsing school buildings hit the headlines in September last year, the government's pledges to solve the RAAC crisis are suffering the same fate as their promises to reduce global warming. Yet, retrofitting to remove RAAC could help us also take action to mitigate the climate crisis
We asked our current National Organisers to share their reflections on working for Teach the Future.
Teach the Future and Energise launch new report on the cost on net zero in UK schools
A few weeks ago, on the 22nd of August, the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) published something very important - General Comment 26, on children’s rights and the environment, with a special focus on climate change. As a volunteer-led youth organisation campaigning for climate education, this could not be more perfect!
