Today we are so excited to announce that we are in the process of employing 6 new staff members to work on the Teach the Future campaign. Each will be introduced in a short blog, first up is Charlie Sweetman.

So, who are you?

Hi, I’m Charlie! I am a 13-year-old climate activist and youth politician from Wiltshire. I began my work in the climate justice movement last April - which is when I went to my first climate strike; from there I joined the UK Student Climate Network where I assist with political outreach, community engagement and schools development. I joined Teach the Future as part of the first influx back in December of 2019 and have recently become one of five student campaign coordinators. Why is Teach the Future/Climate Education important to you?Teach the Future is important to me as I believe that young people need to be given a platform and be empowered to stand up for what they believe in - particularly tackling the climate emergency and ecological crisis; to me this begins with education! What are you bringing to the team?A large amount of experience working with local authorities, which are a devolved area in which we wish to expand, as well as legislative knowledge through my assisting in the writing the English Climate Emergency Education Act and positions as the Member of Youth Parliament for West Wiltshire and youth councillor with the Wiltshire Youth Union. Also I can offer a different perspective into the English education system as the youngest person in the organisation! What's a fun fact about you?I am a certified Scuba Diver!
