Climate and environmental literacy goes global

What Teach the Future UK has been able to do this year has been incredible, but we’re not the only group working to improve climate education - at an international level Earth Day has started a campaign to get countries across the world to introduce better climate education.

They have written an open letter, signed by over 350 Organizations, representing hundreds of millions of people in more than 100 countries on board and counting.

They say

'A climate-educated and environmentally literate global public is likely to be better placed to take part in the green jobs revolution, make better sustainable consumer choices, become the next generation of sustainable entrepreneurs, and hold leaders to account.

And we at Teach the Future agree wholeheartedly.'

They haven’t just got organizations onboard, but also key individuals:

“At COP26, we need stepped up action and ambition right across the Paris Agreement, and that includes ambition in respect to climate education. We need to better educate our children and youth on the science and the risks, but also the excitement of building a better world; generating more good jobs in sustainable businesses and the benefits of being greener consumers and more active citizens. I welcome this global initiative and look forward to it stimulating excitement and enthusiasm among all governments and all sectors of society,” said Patricia Espinosa, Executive Secretary of UN Climate Change (UNFCCC).
