COP26 launch with PM Boris Johnson

Today a handful of Teach the Future volunteers were given the incredible opportunity to attend the launch of the United Nations COP26 at the London Science Museum.

The Science Museum CEO Sir Ian Blatchford spoke first. Then Sir David Attenborough warned of the dangers of inaction, and the importance of COP. Next the Prime Minister, Boris Johnston, spoke on how he believed the UK could tackle the climate and ecological crisis. Finally, it was Italian PM Giuseppe Conte, who spoke about the importance of youth leadership. Too right!

All great words, but they had more to do than listen. They were on a mission and, although slightly daunting, they managed to speak with lots of influencers to tell them about Teach the Future. They had great discussions with Nick Stern (author of the pivotal Stern report), Mark Carney (Governor of the Bank of England, who was really supportive), Harriet Lamb (CEO of Ashden),  and Matt Hyde (CEO of Scouts). Zamzam also handed a paper copy of our letter to the PM to the PM, as we sent it to Number 10 a couple of weeks and sadly still haven’t had a reply. Fingers crossed Boris reads it as well as we really need his help to Teach the Future!
