Teach the Future is supporting this initiative by a group of over 80 activists from Europe. We have worked with Fridays For Future Climate Education to organise the sending of these letters, a series of social media actions as well as banner drops and projections around the U.K.
We are appealing to politicians to make climate education a key discussion point at COP26 and Leaders Summit on Climate as well as ensure comprehensive climate education is a reality for all students across Europe.
A member of the team asks “Why is the climate crisis the only crisis we don’t learn about in schools? If we are to treat the climate crisis as an emergency, we need the upcoming generation to be equipped with the necessary knowledge. This will only be possible through implementing climate education in schools at all levels of education.”
Climate education is the ultimate tool in combating the climate crisis, and yet it is still, despite its undeniable importance, being neglected. The crisis cannot be dealt with, without a severe change in the mindset of the entire population. The introduction of climate education is a necessity since the climate crisis affects us all, a widespread societal change in the lifestyle and approach to climate matters must occur. This cannot be varied throughout the world, every citizen must have the knowledge and information to take part in a just green society.
