The day is finally here! Today we are launching our Teach the Future Scotland campaign! The Teach the Future England campaign was launched last October and for the last few months, a few of us from Scotland have been working on starting the campaign up here in the north.

Before I say anything else I want to thank all the members of TTF England for helping us get this campaign started we wouldn’t have been able to do it without you guys!

TTF Scotland was started by members of Scottish Youth Climate Strikes with the help of TTF England. Because of this, we decided to have SYCS as one of our parent organisations along with NUS Scotland who we would also like to thank for supporting us and helping represent higher and further education students.

As much as we wish we could launch our campaign with an event like TTF England did the current circumstances prevented us for doing so; we hope you will support our campaign as much as possible through our social media launch.

Although we are launching the campaign that does not mean we have not already been doing a lot behind the scenes including a green recovery campaign with a letter to the Education Secretary John Swinney and working on our asks document which we are delighted to share with you today: you have find this here

We have four asks for the Scottish Government:

  • A government-commissioned review into how the whole of the Scottish formal education system is preparing students for the climate emergency and ecological crisis.
  • Inclusion of the climate emergency and ecological crisis in teacher education and a new professional teaching qualification.
  • Increased priority for sustainability in school inspections and publicly influencing educational rankings’
  • A Scottish Climate and Biodiversity Emergency Education Act

In honour of launching our campaign and asks, we will be writing to the First Minister Nicola Sturgeon about our campaign and urging for a green recovery for education in light of the Education Secretary failing to respond to our letter.

Please keep an eye on our on social media and join in with our launch week by sharing posts, asking questions etc as we start this journey for climate justice in education.
