Teach the Future has taken on three new volunteer coordinators! It's their job now to ensure all our volunteers feel happy and comfortable within the campaign, as well as help the campaign complete its projects smoothly and on time. Here's a little bit about each of them, they can't wait to meet the new recruits!

Tess - Volunteer Coordinator for Scotland

Hi! My name is Tess Corcoran, and I am the Teach the Future Volunteer coordinator in Scotland! I am 18 years old and left school in 2021; I hope to start uni this year. I love reading, crocheting and being in nature.

I have been active in climate-change-related campaigns since May 2019, starting with Fridays for Future Scotland and then starting Teach the Future Scotland at the beginning of the campaign, nearly two years ago in Spring 2020. I am so excited to be the volunteer coordinator as it allows me to continue being active and passionate in the campaign for Climate education and gives me the chance to help volunteers learn about and be involved in the campaign.

There are so many exciting things in the works for TtF Scot this year, from finishing the writing of the Scottish Climate and Biodiversity Emergency Education bill to organising a parliamentary reception to introduce our cause to MSPs. These projects will help us be seen by those with the power to change education for the better, and I am so excited to see where they will take us in the next year. We would love to have you on our team if you want to join. There are loads of opportunities for everyone - whether you're into the more political side of things, or if you’re artsier - I would be so excited to work with you!

Stella - Volunteer Coordinator for Wales

My name is Stella Orrin, and I'm the Wales Student Volunteer coordinator of Teach The Future! I joined the campaign as a volunteer back in November 2020 and became a staff member in March 2021 until October that year. I had such an amazing time as both a staff member and a volunteer; I’ve developed so many skills and had so many opportunities since joining.

I’m 16 years old and from a relatively small, industrial place in South Wales. I’m currently studying for my GCSE’s and am hoping to go on to study mathematics, theology, philosophy & ethics, and history for A-levels! I’m working towards my grade 7 in cello and have started the trumpet not so long ago. I’m a member of the Welsh Youth Parliament, where I try my best to raise awareness about the climate crisis and education on it. I also play for my regional rugby team - the Scarlets - and train three times a week! My other hobbies include painting and reading, my favourite animals are capybaras and moths, and my favourite colour is pink!

In Wales, we’re going to be onboarding new volunteers in these coming weeks! We should also be looking at how specific the new curriculum in September is on the teaching of climate change & the issues around it, along with things around the local elections and so much more! We’ll see where our new volunteers would like to go… But one thing we will definitely be doing is hosting a very first Senedd reception with Members of the Senedd! Keep an eye out for updates.

Nico - Volunteer Coordinator for England

Hey, I’m Nico King, the Volunteer Coordinator for England! Joining Teach the Future in February 2021 was my first step into climate activism, and I can honestly say it's one of the best things I’ve ever done.

I’m 20 years old and live in a little village near the East Yorkshire coast. In 2021, I completed my A-Levels in Biology, Chemistry and PE, and I’ll start uni in September on a Biological Sciences course; I can’t wait to get back into studying! Unfortunately, I don’t have any hobbies at the moment, as setbacks in my mental and physical health have taken me away from them. Still, I really hope to get back into gymnastics or start martial arts at university!

Teach the Future England has a lot going on this year; obviously, there’s the passage of our Bill through Parliament and continuing the conversation with exam boards, which will push for Climate Education to become mandatory in secondary and tertiary education. We also have plenty of creative projects to inspire teachers and students and bring climate change into the classroom now!

I’m really excited to be in this role and can’t wait to help everyone achieve their aims for Teach the Future, support new volunteers to find their feet in the campaign, and help build up our positive community. Of course, I’ll be available to chat and help out with anything, no matter how long you’ve been in the campaign, though!
