Candidate's Responses

  1. Do you support the integration of climate change throughout every subject?

Yes - the world faces an existential climate crisis which threatens much of wildlife on Earth. The science of climate change and the mass extinctions includes all scientific disciplines. History should include an examination of how global warming and the destruction of the natural world has come about, and how those in power have responded to it. English should look at key texts and authors who have tried to draw attention to the crisis we are in. The enviromental crises we are in should be part of our everyday thinking and culture. This all starts by embedding this knowledge and understanding at school
  2. Do you support the teaching on solutions for climate change, as well as the causes and impacts?

Of course - we need to teach young people about the way forward, not just give them a very negative gloomy picture of where humans and the rest of the natural world are heading. teaching young people about the solutions will encourage them to adopt these in their personal choices and lifestyle, as well as attract them to careers in organisations tackling our environmental problems.
  3. Do they support more training for all teachers around the climate crisis?

Yes - how can teacher embed this area of learning into all their topics unless they are very knowledgeable about it themselves.
  4. Do they support more money being spent to upgrade schools so they are carbon neutral?

Yes - schools and all buildings should be converted, but especially schools because this acts as a positive example to pupils/students.
  5. Do they support more green skills being taught in job-related education?

This is essential, so that the industries working on the solutions to the climate and nature crises can recruit employees with the right knowledge and skills.
