Candidate's Responses

  1. Do you support the integration of climate change throughout every subject?

Climate change will impact all aspects of our lives, and therefore should be taught throughout the curriculum. A purely science/geographical based approach would neglect the power that subjects like music, drama and English have to allow children to process an overwhelming issue like climate change. Our history curriculum should also be honest and informative about how we have reached this point of climate emergency.
  2. Do you support the teaching on solutions for climate change, as well as the causes and impacts?

Yes, I fully support this. It's crucial for students to not only understand the problem but also to be empowered with knowledge about sustainable practices and innovative solutions. By doing this, we can inspire and equip the next generation to take meaningful action towards a greener, more sustainable future.
  3. Do they support more training for all teachers around the climate crisis?

Yes. The Green Party champions climate education and I believe in robust and ongoing teacher training in this. Through comprehensive training and by providing a range of high quality resources, we can ensure that teachers are able to equip students with the knowledge and thinking skills they need to respond to the climate crisis and take the necessary actions to stop the breakdown of our climate as well as our natural world.
  4. Do they support more money being spent to upgrade schools so they are carbon neutral?

I see this as essential. Investing in energy-efficient buildings and renewable energy sources is crucial and sets a positive example for students. This will not only help combat climate change but also create healthier, more sustainable learning environments. As part of their climate education, children could be involved in making decisions about how to best do this.
  5. Do they support more green skills being taught in job-related education?

Yes. The Green Party sees a rapid transition to a green economy as critical - as do climate scientists. Green skills vocational training is a vital part of this. Equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed for the green economy is essential to build a resilient and sustainable future.
