Candidate's Responses

  1. Do you support the integration of climate change throughout every subject?

Yes, because everyone needs to know the facts about climate change, and its current and future impact on every aspect of our lives. This is essential information for our children and young people.
  2. Do you support the teaching on solutions for climate change, as well as the causes and impacts?

Yes. There are examples of fantastic work in many of our schools in areas such as outdoor learning, learning about protecting local biodiversity, and learning where food comes from. These initiatives should be celebrated and shared as good practice. A key part of understanding climate change is understanding the actions we can all take individually and collectively to repair the damage that has already happened.
  3. Do they support more training for all teachers around the climate crisis?

Yes, absolutely. I’ve been happy to support and encourage this through my work as a Councillor. I used to be a teacher, and having support and training to help you deliver the most current and up-to-date information with confidence is so important.
  4. Do they support more money being spent to upgrade schools so they are carbon neutral?

Yes, because not only will this be more cost-effective for local authorities, but it will ultimately benefit pupils, staff and whole communities. Plus our children and young people deserve to learn in upgraded, comfortable and modern surroundings - and involving them in decision-making around their school buildings can be an valuable learning opportunity.
  5. Do they support more green skills being taught in job-related education?

Yes, because today’s children and young people are our future workforce, and we need to ensure their generation has the correct and necessary mix of skills and knowledge.
