Candidate's Responses

  1. Do you support the integration of climate change throughout every subject?

I do, as I believe that rather than being a subject in its own right, it's an overarching issue that encompasses everything.
  2. Do you support the teaching on solutions for climate change, as well as the causes and impacts?

Absolutely! There's no point knowing about climate change unless you know the solutions. I would actually go further than this and support schools actively helping pupils to make a positive impact.
  3. Do they support more training for all teachers around the climate crisis?

Yes. I met a teacher a few years ago at an Extinction Rebellion meeting, and she expressed to me her frustration at how unaware her colleagues were on these issues. I believe this is something that needs to be dealt with.
  4. Do they support more money being spent to upgrade schools so they are carbon neutral?

I do, but I think we can go a bit further than this. I think that all pupils, from sixth form down to nursery level, have a part to play in contributing ideas to make their surroundings more carbon-efficient, and I'd like to see that being a part of this rather than all being top-down.
  5. Do they support more green skills being taught in job-related education?

I am, although I think our collective approach to jobs and employment is quite flawed anyway. When I was at school I often felt that I was being encouraged to learn how to get a job, rather than how to use my own personal skills in the most productive way. I think this is something that could do with a complete overhaul, rather than just a few green tweaks.
