Candidate's Responses

  1. Do you support the integration of climate change throughout every subject?

No, climate changes naturally and it always will, humans are not responsible for changing the climate, the tiny amount of C02 that we generate contributes very little to atmospheric warming and the fears of a runaway feedback scenario have been proven false by recent scientific work done on the saturation effect of atmospheric CO2. There is no climate emergency, we need to take a balanced approach now, one built on adaption rather than costly net zero prevention.
  2. Do you support the teaching on solutions for climate change, as well as the causes and impacts?

Yes, there are many things we can do to adapt to a naturally changing climate, better civil planning for flood prevention, use of drought resistant deep rooted leys in agriculture etc. Teaching the causes of climate change are imperative as we urgently need to address the political influence within the scientific community which has resulted in the climate scaremongereing that has gone on over the last 30 years. A balanced approach is much needed.
  3. Do they support more training for all teachers around the climate crisis?

No, there is no climate crisis.
  4. Do they support more money being spent to upgrade schools so they are carbon neutral?

No, apart from upgrading insulation which is common sense I think the money would be better off spent improving the teaching provision for children, including an emphasis on creativity, critical thinking, physical fitness, healthy cooking, financial planning, traditional family planning, personal responsibility, respect for each other and being a positive role model to others. Curricula should be more individualised (although I appreciate that is a big ask under current funding levels) and I support the reintroduction of state funded grammar schools in all areas of the UK.
  5. Do they support more green skills being taught in job-related education?

Yes, emerging technological innovation in any sector should be supported, green tech has its use cases and can build energy resilience on a personal and national level. My only problem is the scale of current renewable energy generating capacity within the national grid and the higher costs to the tax payer involved along with the lost opportunity of beneficial development in other areas suffered by huge net zero budget allocation.
