Candidate's Responses

  1. Do you support the integration of climate change throughout every subject?

Yes, climate change can be taught as part of any subject and helps bring those subjects to life by engaging them with such a vital issue. For example you can look at physics to show how the amount of water air can hold increases dramatically with temperature to show how a warming world can lead to heavier rainfall events and more flooding.
  2. Do you support the teaching on solutions for climate change, as well as the causes and impacts?

Yes, solutions are many and varied and a discussion about which to prioritise in different situations is a great tool for learning about problem solving and that one answer is not always the best solution to a problem.
  3. Do they support more training for all teachers around the climate crisis?

Yes, given my previous answers its important that teachers understand the topic in depth if they are to teach about it.
  4. Do they support more money being spent to upgrade schools so they are carbon neutral?

Yes, not only is that a significant contribution to making the country carbon neutral but the projects that deliver it can be a great tool for teaching children about potential solutions.
  5. Do they support more green skills being taught in job-related education?

Absolutely - we need huge investment in green skills from advanced technology (new battery chemistries) to learning existing building techniques to retrofit old buildings. Teaching young people these skills will given them a great chance of getting good jobs in the future as demand of them rises and will enable us to do the work necessary to become carbon neutral.
