Candidate's Responses

  1. Do you support the integration of climate change throughout every subject?

Yes. Climate change is not an issue that belongs in one subject department, but across the curriculum. Climate change is of course partly science, maths, geography in terms of how we understand it and how we solve it. But it is also part of our history (how did we get here and why are some countries major polluters and other countries suffering disproportionately); of politics/modern studies/economics (why are different countries responding in different ways and what other responses are possible); as well as to English and the arts (how do we debate these issues, express their implications)?
  2. Do you support the teaching on solutions for climate change, as well as the causes and impacts?

Yes of course! Teaching about ideas and skills that can solve climate change just seems obvious - if we don't, we will all suffer.
  3. Do they support more training for all teachers around the climate crisis?

Yes - climate change is a complicated and multi-faceted issue, and also absolutely crucial.
  4. Do they support more money being spent to upgrade schools so they are carbon neutral?

Yes - we should support action to upgrade buildings generally to being carbon neural wherever possible, if we are serious about tackling the climate crisis.
  5. Do they support more green skills being taught in job-related education?

Yes - not only are such skills essential if we are to solve the climate crisis, but teaching such skills will also open up a host of opportunities for the students that learn them, as well as our economy as a whole.
