Candidate's Responses

  1. Do you support the integration of climate change throughout every subject?

    Yes indeed, but this also must be put into practice - eg. school trips in secondary schools should not involve flying, and schools need to be supported to be as green as possible in every way - words and action need to reflect one another.
  2. Do you support the teaching on solutions for climate change, as well as the causes and impacts?

    Yes I do - young people need to have some sense of hope and the way forward - one of the major stresses of childhood is getting messages about the climate and seeing adult inaction in the face of this.
  3. Do they support more training for all teachers around the climate crisis?

    Yes, though teachers also need support to just manage as their workloads are leading to major stress and illness, and schools need urgent repairs and more space and more access to green spaces.
  4. Do they support more money being spent to upgrade schools so they are carbon neutral?

    Yes, this would achieve several goals at once - making schools more sustainable energy-wise, bringing down bills, showing children and young people that it is possible to aim for a decarbonised future, and supporting teachers to show as well as teach what greening the environment looks like.
  5. Do they support more green skills being taught in job-related education? 

    Greening society needs to permeate every aspect of our lives, from nurseries, through all levels of education, and into the work that people do.
