Candidate's Responses

  1. Do you support the integration of climate change throughout every subject?

Climate change is an existential crisis and it is crucial that young people understand the impact for our future. I am sure that it can be well integrated into all subjects in a creative way - artistic interpretation and the use of plastic waste in art, in history understanding more about migration over time and how conflicts are caused, geography and science is fairly obvious. DT and IT can help us with the solutions and maths can help us interpret the data. We need to use english to explain and persuade, to campaign and to tell stories and we need subjects like food tech to support ways to live our lives more sustainably
  2. Do you support the teaching on solutions for climate change, as well as the causes and impacts?

yes! i did a short University of Exeter course on Climate Science and solutions and it would be a wonderful course to teach in 6th form. there are solutions at every stage of education, our chidlren are going to be the ones to fix the future so helping them understand the small ways at a young age is sensible
  3. Do they support more training for all teachers around the climate crisis?

definitely. many teachers will not have learned this themselves and there is a risk that if they rely on social media and TV they could be taken in conspiracy theories. I support continuous professional development for teachers and would support strong national curriculum materials that is science nased. failing that -David Attenborough!
  4. Do they support more money being spent to upgrade schools so they are carbon neutral?

yes all public buildings should be moving towards net zero. this will reduce running costs as wel as benefitting the environment
  5. Do they support more green skills being taught in job-related education?

yes, it is shocking that some colleges are not runnung courses and students have to travel to learn solar based electrics, or EV motor engineering.
